The Imperial City
For what is arguably the most authentic taste of Vietnam’s imperial history, look no further than the city of Hue and its incredible citadel, former home of the Nguyen Emperors. Depending on your level of interest, it could take you most of the day to explore this massive complex, with its numerous gates, gardens, halls, pavilions, pagodas, squares, watchtowers and cannons. It’s mind boggling to think that most of the place was destroyed during The Vietnam War and what remains today is just a fraction of its original scale.
